The Town of
Chelsea, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Citizen Observer Patrol
groups are dedicated to reducing crime wherever possible. This collective
effort by town officials, law enforcement officers and community
volunteers will help discover, report and ultimately apprehend those
persons responsible for crime in the Town of Chelsea, Alabama.
The ultimate objective of this combined effort is to reduce crime and help
the citizens of Chelsea feel secure in their communities.
Additionally, citizen cooperation with the Sheriff’s Office puts persons
committing crimes in the community on notice that people not only support
their law enforcement agency in fighting crime but are actively working
with the law enforcement officers to do so.
INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEER SERVICE IN THE C.O.P. PROGRAM:
(1) Be at least 21 years of age.
(2) Reside or own property within the city limits of Chelsea.
(3) Provide a completed and signed application form.
(4) Performance of a criminal history record check.
(5) Be approved by the Chelsea C.O.P. General Management Committee.
(6) Complete Phase I Training prior to any patrol activity.
(7) Complete Phase II Training within 90 days.
(8) Contribute a minimum of three (3) hours per week patrolling within the
city limits.
(9) Attend a minimum of six (6) regularly scheduled monthly meetings per
year.
